History to Share

Your family’s history is a unique glimpse of the past, to be kept for your children and future generations. The inspirational stories tell how and why the Murrindindi area was settled. Now the Murrindindi Historic Register (MHR) offers an opportunity to share your stories with the community.

Life Album Display

The Life Album is a celebration of your identity and survival and is of great benefit to future generations. Make a start for your family, whether school child or senior citizen.

Bring a family album of photographs or documents, a special image from the past, or a document of historical significance to the family. Add captions showing names, dates and locations, if possible. Or make a poster. Display tables will be available.

In the publication Alexandra & District(2006) — author Brian Lloyd, published by Histec Publications with MHR — included 97 family histories (pages 205 to 359). These can be used as a starting point for any of those families. MHR is also seeking to add to these.

Family Story

Residents from the Shire of Murrindindi are invited to submit a Family Story (max. 1000 words) detailing a life experience related to a family member. This can be presented in written form or as a short talk. This is not a competition and, with the author’s permission, stories will be read out at a presentation (see schedule above).

Send email to Rex Tate (rexassoc@virtual.net.au) by 20 Feb 2009, including your name, address, age and contact details.

MHR require an agreement for your story to be the property of MHR for possible reading, recital or publication in a future anthology.

Sponsors and Supporters of Heritage Week participate (and get free advertising) in:

  • Window Displays
  • Events
  • Exhibitions

Please download the Heritage Week Registration Form for details.

Notable Persons, Awards & Honours

Murrindindi Historic Register maintains a Listing of Notable Persons and Awards & Honours for the interest of current and future generations and for researchers.

Notable Persons

A Notable Person has contributed to the Community, its Culture, and/or History. All ages, past and present, are important.

For example, immigrant families can honor their parents, pre-arrival, and their hard working lives in Australia, via this Listing to the MHR Survey Database.

To register your parents, yourself or others you believe should be included in this Listing, download the Notable Persons Nomination Form or use one of the contacts to obtain it.

Awards & Honours

Business or Personal Awards and Honours are of similar interest to future generations and researchers.

To register such an Award or Honour, similarly download the Awards Registration Form , or obtain a copy as above.
