Adult Learners Week
Adult Learners Week is held during the first week in September. It is a celebration of Adult Education in the Community. CEACA has run many things over the past few years. These have included Open days, a business breakfast and a display in one of the shop fronts in the main street in Alexandra.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
CEACA’s AGM is held of an evening with a tasty selection of food on offer. The formal part of the AGM usually runs for about half an hour. It is a good opportunity for people to come along and find out what CEACA has been doing during the previous year.
We have been very lucky in attracting some very motivated people on to the CEACA Committee of Management and would love to have more members. Don’t worry – you won’t be given a job as soon as you join – we just want a range of ideas and your interest.
You’re welcome to join the Association without becoming an active Committee member. Any support is always welcomed. It is an enjoyable night and we look forward to seeing you there at the next one.
Christmas Party
The CEACA Christmas party is also an opportunity for us to say a BIG thank you to our Committee of Management and wonderful Tutors. In previous years we have held our Christmas parties at the picturesque Dame Pattie Menzies Centre or in our new recreation area.
Presentation Night
At the beginning of the year CEACA holds a Presentation night for all the students out of our Certificate II in Business and Certificate II in Information Technology from previous year. We invited Danny Hogan along to present the students with their certificate. The students brought family and friends along for the occasion to help celebrate their achievements. After the formal part of the ceremony we were treated to a beautiful supper.
CEACA Community Mural
During 2001 CEACA was successful in gaining funding from the Murrindindi Shire to produce a serious of Murals to be hung in the courtroom at CEACA. CEACA approached various community groups and we ended up with 11 two meter by one meter murals and one tiled mural painted by our very own China Painting group adorning the courtroom walls. The Murals are available for the public to view. Please ring the CEACA office for more details 5772 1238.
Art in the Environment Project
The concept of Art in Our Environment is about local community members working together to produce a functional sculpture for their town. The sculpture must perform some function for the community – such as signage, lighting, seating or children’s play equipment. The project aimed at maximum community involvement and participation, culminating in the creation of artful amenities made by locals for locals. There was a design competition, open to all members of the local community, with particular encouragement of youth participation. The winning designs were being created by volunteers, who gained skills, connection and confidence from their involvement in the project. In line with the improvements to local amenities that the Shire has undertaken recently, the project contributes eye-catching sculptures to our towns that serve a daily function for locals. There is great potential for this to become an ongoing venture- for example: creating decorative murals at areas like the local pools.
Check out Sheila Brennan’s animals in Rotary Park, Alexandra; Bruno Torf’s Fisherman in Eildon and Lisa Rudd’s giant platypus in the Yea wetlands.
A huge thank you to all the artists and the many volunteers who helped to make this extraordinary project succeed.
